Holly Renee Seymour is a CEO who is a CPA and as a certified public accountant this tax season has been among the busiest for the rising corporate executive.
Seymour recently opened her stand-alone accounting firm that bears her name, Holly Renee Seymour, CPA, LLC, located at 205 East Commerce Street in Hernando, in the heart of bustling Hernando.
"I couldn't ask for a better location," said Seymour of her firm's new office, located in the renovated quarters of the former LadyBugg Bakery. The bakery has moved farther down the street.
"This is my first season in my own commercial space," said Seymour, who has been a CPA for the past three years, upon completion of a degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi.
Seymour also has degrees in criminology and psychology from Florida State University, which has helped with the counseling aspect of her profession.
"When I got out of the military in 2003, I moved back here about the time my parents had built their new dental office, DeSoto Family Dental Care. Up until that point, my mom Shirley had kept the books for the dental practice. She began to focus more on becoming a dental hygienist and that's when I began keeping the books for the dental practice."
Seymour finished up her degree by attending classes at the University of Mississippi-DeSoto Center and by attending a few classes on the Ole Miss campus in Oxford.
However, Seymour has assisted clients and friends for years with better managing and reporting their finances.
"Even when I was working towards my psychology degree, there was a lot of statistics that I kept up with. I always had a knack for that."
Since obtaining her accounting credentials, Seymour had been working out of her home.
Seymour decided she needed an office of her own.
"We got this building when LadyBugg Bakery moved out," Seymour said. "We started the renovation in November. "I had to kick the contractors out the back door as the clients were coming in through the front door."
Seymour said during a busy tax season, she might see as many as eight to 10 clients a day.
"This is my first season in a commercial space," Seymour said. "My first two years I've worked at home. It has never been anything like this."
Seymour said her clientele includes mostly small business owners, for which she keeps "QuickBooks."
However, she is handling more and more larger clients and gets calls from individuals who need some expert advice.
"Some people might be dealing with receiving an inheritance, or have sold real estate which can complicate matters," Seymour said.
In her spare time, Seymour works as a volunteer for the Hernando Animal Shelter.
A cat lover, Seymour works to place adopted felines in loving homes. Seymour has had more than a half dozen cats at one time.
"I like volunteering to help find good homes for animals," Seymour said, adding, "I like to help people, too."
