Color is what Ben Evans’ business is all about and as store manager for the new Memphis Paints store at 5940 Goodman Road in Olive Branch, he hopes to help customers savor a new colorful look to their space.

Evans, an Olive Branch native, oversees the second Memphis Paints store in the Mid-South. He said the store opened in late January and is a preferred dealer for the Benjamin Moore brand of paint products.

“We noticed that there hadn’t been a Benjamin Moore store in this area for some time and we’d been getting requests from people in this area that love our products and colors,” Evans said. “I grew up in Olive Branch, so I am pretty familiar with the area and everything. It was a natural for me to want to be in this market.”

In addition to paint, brushes and other products, Evans said the store offers a lot more.

“We carry a host of other things, like a large selection of wallpaper,” Evans said. “We really just try to make this store a one-stop shop for any kind of interior decorating or design needs that people need.”

Customers who come in can also get the expertise of an experienced decorator on hand to offer advice and suggestions.

“Lawana Marzolf is our interior designer and she has run her own business, in DeSoto County, in Tennessee and Florida the past 25 years,” Evans said. “We primarily do in-store consultation, so if someone brings in anything from a Pinterest or a magazine item they really like, we can comb through the colors that we have here and help the customer find exactly what they need to either get that look or close to it.”

Evans added Marzolf can also offer advice on wallpaper designs to assure the customer that they leave with something they will be happy with.

An in-store staff person and outside sales person also assist Evans at the Memphis Paints store in Olive Branch.

Evans himself has been dealing with paint for most of his time, having started work thanks to his father.

“I started with Ace Hardware in Memphis while in college,” Evans said. “My dad is still a representative for Benjamin Moore so that’s what got me interested, because he’s been with them for about 15 years at this point. He helped me get with Ace and then I left paint for awhile to do some work in the marketing department at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Memphis. A little under a year ago I got back into paint and it’s been a blast for sure, it’s been really fun.”
