Take a "magic carpet ride" with Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors President Bob Barney.

Yet, Barney, a veteran of the carpet and flooring industry, said there is so much more to choose from these days than just carpet — make that more than 17,000 choices of flooring materials to be exact.

"We've been in business in the Mid-South for 34 years," said Barney, as his sales team and office staff surrounded him on a recent afternoon on a company photo shoot.

Locally owned, Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors has served the greater Memphis area since 1984.

"We are more than just a flooring specialty store; we are experts trained in flooring sales and design and will help you find the perfect floor for the way you live," Barney said. " As part of America's leading flooring retail group, our buying power guarantees you low prices on thousands of carpet types and other flooring options backed by the most solid warranties in the floor covering industry. We are locally owned, so we can also guarantee a truly unique level of personal service. Our goal is to make sure you enjoy your shopping experience and find exactly what you want so that you are confident in your purchase. We are dedicated to satisfying you every step of the way."

Whether it's the feel of fine hardwood or plush carpet beneath your feet, Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors is the place to shop. A friendly staff will have you stepping out in style.

"Our vast selection of flooring includes carpet, ceramic tile, hardwood, laminates, luxury vinyl tile, area rugs and more," said Barney. "Our showroom has a wide selection of options for your new floor, with top-name brands, such as Mohawk, Stainmaster, Armstrong, and Shaw. Our knowledgeable flooring consultants listen and work with you to design the look you want within your budget and our team of professional installers will complete the work to your satisfaction."

"We have 17,000 items you can choose from," said Barney, as he gestured with a wide sweep of his hands around the company's vast showroom at 50 Clarington Drive in Southaven. "We give a lifetime guarantee on carpet," adding that the showroom's wide selection of carpet and flooring can be financed from 12 to 34 months.

Satisfied customers are the hallmark of Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors. Consistency and customer service are a major factor in why the business continues to draw repeat customers.

"Consistency is the big thing," Barney said. "We consistently try to make our customers happy. The consistency during our 34 years is due to constantly putting the customer first."

Bob's wife Donna Barney said the family-run business treats customers like family.

"We have installers who have been with us for 25 years," Donna Barney said. "We always call our customers about the installation. The reason we call them after the job is to make sure they are happy. And you try to have a store that is warm and inviting and provides friendly service."

There are certain trends that are in style and en vogue each new spring season and Barney said the trend this year for the active family, especially with pets, is waterproof flooring.

"We are selling a lot of waterproof floors," Barney said. "These products are pet proof. A lot of people have pets. These are surfaces which can stand up to the wear and tear of daily life."

Barney said the waterproof flooring and all of the quality flooring and carpet at Tim Hogan can be installed over any hard surface floor.

"Especially the old vinyl floor," said Barney, adding that many older floor materials contain asbestos and containing those surfaces by installing new flooring is beneficial.

"Waterproof floors are great if you have pets," Barney said."Carpet is really good in the bedroom and also it's good in the den because it absorbs sound."

Barney said the wide array of carpets and flooring is showcased in a way that allows for customers to browse and sit down in several seating areas across the showroom.

If you can't make it into Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors they can come to you.

"All of our sales consultants are vey well trained to go into the home and talk with customers," Barney said. "We have a lifetime labor warranty."

That's important to note, especially among traditional "do-it-yourselfers."

By having professional installers, the customer never has to worry about a do-over at the customer's expense.

"We see what works best," Barney said. "Our installers do it every day. You can tell the difference in a professionally-installed floor than people who do it themselves."

This year, the color palette includes cool grays, as well as natural earth tones, which remain popular and "go with anything."

"The cooler colors are more popular," Barney said. "We are still seeing a lot of earth tones but grays are making in-roads into the market."

Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors have been located in their current location since 2001, when their old store location on Stateline Road was in the way of the interstate expansion. The store had been in that location since 1993.

The new facility allows for the ease and efficiency of loading and unloading carpet and floor items trucked to the store from across the country.

Barney said Tim Hogan's Carpet & Floors has all the latest styles and high quality flooring.

"We're selling to a lot of Baby Boomers," Barney said. "They know what they want. When you buy something for your home, you don't settle. You want it perfect."
