A 25-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision on Miss. Hwy. 305 in rural eastern DeSoto County Thursday night.

DeSoto County Coroner Jeff Pounders said the man has been identified as Jeffrey Garner, II of Memphis. He died instantly in the accident, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to Pounders, Garner's truck broke down and he was said to be standing outside the truck when both Garner and the truck were struck head on by another vehicle.

"He and the truck were both struck from behind which threw him in the ditch," Pounders said. "The truck caught fire and burned."

Pounders said it's his understanding the driver of the other vehicle was injured.

DeSoto County authorities said the injured driver is expected to recover.

The accident investigation is being handled by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department.

Also Thursday, another unrelated accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old man at Shannon Wood Industries in Horn Lake.

According to Pounders, a stack of lumber, containing about 15 boards, fell on Caleb Biggart, pinning him under the stack and causing severe internal injuries.

The accident happened at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday.
