A young Memphis man has been indicted on charges stemming from the shooting death last November of a Horn Lake teenager in a Memphis park.

Shelby County, Tenn. District Attorney Amy Weirich’s office stated in a release that 18-year-old Marcus Malone of Memphis had been indicted on second-degree murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Alana Tello of Horn Lake.

Malone has also been indicted on 12 counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. He was also charged with one count of reckless endangerment.

Two groups of teenagers met at Zodiac Park, near E. Holmes Road and Tchulahoma Road in the Whitehaven area of Memphis about 8 p.m. Nov. 1, 2016.

The youngsters reportedly met to resume a fight that had started the night before.

Prosecutors maintain Malone responded to a confrontation by first firing two shots from a weapon into the air and then into the opposing group of teenagers, killing Tello and wounding five of her friends and sending seven others running for cover.

Malone has been in the Shelby County Jail since his arrest on March 29.

Assistant District Attorney Carla Taylor is prosecuting the case for Shelby County.
