A Byhalia man is being held in the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center in Hernando on charges after a shooting incident that occurred near an Olive Branch motel.

Shaquille Polk, age 23 of 979 Bennett Circle in Byhalia, is being held on multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and other charges connected to the incident, according to information from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies and Olive Branch police officers were called to the Best Western Motel, 10915 Bethel Road in Olive Branch, shortly before midnight Thursday night. They were called on the report of shots being fired at the motel.

Deputies who were in the area heard the gunshots being fired and quickly responded with the aid of responding Olive Branch officers.

They quickly deployed and took Polk into custody.

Polk, when he was found, was in possession of a handgun, the Sheriff’s Department reported. The hotel and surrounding area were secured after Polk was taken into custody.

The information stated that deputies and officers found several victims at the hotel, but made no statement as to the number or severity of injuries they may have sustained.

Jail information stated the charges against Polk include two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon or other means to produce death, disorderly conduct/failure to obey, two counts of false identifying information, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, and contempt of court.

No court date was immediately listed in the jail information.
