One person was killed and several others injured in a Monday afternoon crash that involved a total of four vehicles at the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and Starlanding Road.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident that occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. Monday.

The location of the accident is in western DeSoto County.

According to authorities, the accident involved three cars and an 18-wheel tractor trailer rig.

It appears the 18-wheel tractor trailer collided with the other vehicle from the rear.

DeSoto County Interim Coroner Josh Pounders confirmed that 54-year-old Gerald Benard Glover of Nashville was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pounders said there were multiple individuals in the car of the deceased victim with the same last name.

Pounders said Glover was apparently traveling back to Nashville with his brother from a relative's home in the Mississippi Delta when the accident occurred.

According to Pounders, another individual was flown to an area hospital.

The medical condition of that person was not known at press time.
