Death investigation

A Holly Springs man was killed early Thursday morning along U.S. Highway 78 near Red Banks. 

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported the man was killed about 1:40 a.m. Thursday along the highway east of Red Banks Road.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 2017 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by Marcus Morrow of Burlington, Kentucky struck and killed a Holly Springs man who had pulled his car off to the side of the road and had gotten out of his vehicle.

DeSoto County Coroner Josh Pounders Thursday morning identified the victim as 19-year-old Matthew Brawley of Holly Springs. Pounders said Brawley was dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
