A rural DeSoto County woman reportedly used her firearm skills to defend her home early Friday morning, wounding a man she may have thought was a burglar, although it is still unclear if the person shot was indeed trying to forcibly enter the home.
Information from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department states that one person was injured in the incident at 10972 Sunset Drive, south of I-69 and west of Highway 301 near Lake Cormorant.
Dispatchers received a call and deputies were sent to the home regarding what was termed a burglary in process.
A man was found with a bullet wound in his arm and was taken for treatment to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. The victim was listed in stable condition there Friday afternoon.
Reports indicate a woman was inside her home and she responded by firing through the door, which led the man’s bullet wound.
The Sheriff’s Department has not released information about the identities of the people involved or other details surrounding the incident. The shooting remains under investigation.
It is yet unclear the exact circumstances of the incident, as the Sheriff’s Department information described the person involved as a “victim” and not a “burglar.”
