Donald C. Johnson, 85 of Hernando, formerly of Water Valley and Booneville, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 24, 2019 at his home.  Don was born Oct. 19, 1933 to Nolan and Almer Johnson.  He graduated from University of Mississippi with his Master’s Degree in School Administration and his undergraduate degree being completed at Bethel University.  He began teaching and coaching in 1955 and retired from education in 1986. Don was married to his beloved wife Wanda Pevey Johnson, both of them enjoying 21 years of marriage.  He loved his two sons, Mike (Janet) and Mitch (Traci) with all his heart.  His grandchildren Chip Johnson (Amanda), Jade Hutchens (Josh), Amber Heard (Kyle), Brian Johnson (Jessica), Sadie Johnson and Elijah Hill brought so much joy and happiness into his life.  His great-grandchildren Kaylee, Kylee, Kellan, Kynslee, Brody, Greyson, Hydee, Lucy and Noah were such a blessing to him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Nolan and Almer Johnson, his beloved cousin, Moise Holder Bean, who was more like his sister and his first wife Jimmie Dale Arnold Johnson. Don was devoted to his family, church and his students.  He loved his time as a coach, teacher and school administrator, which allowed him to help mold and shape the lives of many.  Don was a man who genuinely cared and willingly invested in the lives of his students and athletes.  In his later years he enjoyed being home reading and listening to The Word.  All who knew him were blessed to have known him.  Like all good parents, teachers and coaches, his influence and legacy lives on. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sun., Jan. 27, 2019 at Hernando Funeral Home in Hernando, with visitation at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Community College Development Foundation, Attn: Patrick Eaton, 101 Cunningham Blvd, Booneville, MS 38829.
