RENA LARA, MISSISSIPPI

Heaven received another angel on Tuesday, July 24th. Mrs. Doris Evelyn Roark Furniss left her earthly home to join her Savior. She was a devoted Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before she retired, she held many positions with JCPenney, including sales associate, department supervisor and office manager. Doris was born on Dec 24, 1938 in Rena Lara to Belford and Mary Sue Roark. She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Jonathan Quitman “Buck” Roark, Francis Marion Roark, Mary Opal Roark Fletcher, Homer Barrett Roark, Jewel Etoy Roark Morris, Imogene Roark Furniss, Hazel Lorene Roark Clements, Wilma Viola Roark, Edith Lynn Roark Furniss, Margaret Janean Roark Allen, Gary Wayne Roark; her son-in-law Steven Wayne Allen and her granddaughter Lauren Ashley Furniss. She is survived by her husband, former Senator Vernon Delma Furniss of Rena Lara; her sister Glenda Marie Roark Smith of Lake Cormorant and her brother Ronald Ray Roark (Hertha) of Sarah; her children, Cynthia Darlene Furniss Allen of Holcomb, Randall Glenn “Buddy” Furniss of Rena Lara and Sharon Ranee Furniss Looney (Kevin) of Southaven. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Bradley Gray (Deven) of Holcomb, Randall Glenn Furniss Jr of Rena Lara, Amanda Marie Baskin (Tyler) of Prosper, Texas, Bethany Layne Allen Prudente (Manuele) of Naples, Italy, Annesley Nicole “Nikki” Allen Neely (Turner) of Holcomb and Steven Michael Looney of Southaven. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Emmie Reese Gray and William Luke Gray of Holcomb, Jacey May Cotton of Prosper, Texas and Jackson Thomas Baskin and Hayden James Baskin of Prosper, Texas. Mrs. Furniss was a lifelong member of Rena Lara Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends and she thought nothing was better than grandchildren, except great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Friday, July 27th from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. at Rena Lara Baptist Church in Rena Lara. The service was at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Rena Lara Baptist Church P.O. Box 118 Rena Lara, MS 38767. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home will be handling the services.
