Editors of the College Football America 2017 Yearbook have elected to rank Northwest No. 8 in its 2017 preseason junior college Top 30 poll.

Northwest is also ranked 13th according to Street & Smith's College Football Preview magazine and 18th by JCGridiron.com. The NJCAA will release its preseason poll in the coming days. That one is the primary poll used to determine the national champion.

East Mississippi is No. 1. Three of the next four teams in the CFA rankings hail from California. No. 2 Butte, No. 4 CCSF and No. 5 Mt. San Antonio have all won CCCAA titles since 2007. Garden City (Kan.) No. 3, is the defending NJCAA national champion after riding a Cinderella wave to the title by beating Arizona Western last year in the El Toro Bowl.

The remainder of the Top 10 includes No. 6 Fullerton, No. 7 Arizona Western, No. 8 Northwest Mississippi, No. 9 American River and No. 10 Trinity Valley (Tex.).

Northwest will start the 2017 season Aug. 31 against Hinds Community College at Senatobia.
